On Tuesday, June 30, about $1 million worth of illegal fireworks were seized from a warehouse in Miami Gardens. According to the authorities, no one will be arrested.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials received a tip from someone who told them to check out Sky King Fireworks located at 17401 Northwest Second Avenue.

According to the police, in the back of the warehouse, the authorities found fireworks that varied in size, however, all of them were designed to shoot and explode, which is not legal in Miami-Dade County.RESIDENTS BUY THE FIREWORKS IN BROWARD COUNTYThe warehouse workers expressed their frustration over how the same fireworks were for sale in Broward County. The workers argued that there wasn't anything to stop people from buying them in Broward County and then setting them off in Miami-Dade County.

One of the workers told Local 10 News that it's the same stuff that TNT sells. He said that they carry the exact same stuff, that he doesn't know what the big deal is.

It's illegal to sell the fireworks in Miami-Dade County, however, it's not illegal to possess them.

Chief Alan Cominsky said that the workers were going to have to remove the illegal fireworks and that fire marshals would have to conduct another inspection before the store would be allowed to reopen. Cominsky said that the employees were being cooperative.FIREWORKS IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTYAccording to the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), more than 10,000 fireworks-related injuries are treated in America's emergency rooms. Of those, children under the age of 15 account for over 40% of the injured.

The NFPA also says that the risk of a firework injury is two-and-a-half times higher for children between the ages of 5 and 14, as compared to the rest of the population.

What is illegal in Miami-Dade County?
  • Fireworks that detonate,

  • Fireworks that propel through the air, and
  • Fireworks that contain over 100 grams of a chemical compound that causes sparks.
The safest way to enjoy a fireworks display is to watch one that has been put on by trained professionals. If you do purchase fireworks, make sure to stay away from illegal fireworks and purchase all fireworks from a vendor who has an official permit to sell fireworks.
